Message from Stephen Kerr, APPG Chair
Selling is one of the most ubiquitous activities in our society.
Everyone at some point sells and is ‘sold to’. Professional Selling, where goods or services are exchanged in return for a payment, is all about providing something of value to the buyer. Done well and consistently, every company and person buying in such a transaction is thus better off. When scaled across all of UK business, Professional Selling lifts our productivity and output. This is particularly important as we face Brexit.
The sales function is one of the largest employers in the UK, with over 10% of the working population involved in sales of some kind. It is one of the few roles that can demand high levels of skill, yet has no recognized qualifications.
The APPG for Professional Sales has been formed to improve skills, attract the right people into the profession and ensure ethics and standards are a constant so that selling can make a bigger contribution to the success of the economy. The job of Parliament is to help facilitate this, through awareness, influence and legislation.
